Midshipmen Wrong and Right are back for another vintage installment of the U.S. Navy’s Dating Dos and Don’ts training film: How to Succeed with Brunettes

(See if you can guess which one is Midshipman “Wrong.”)

In case you missed it, some background from the previous post:

Courtesy of our colleagues in the National Archives’ Motion Picture Preservation Lab we present How to Succeed with Brunettes (1967), a film produced by the Navy that demonstrates proper dating etiquette for officers. Part of a recentaccession of military instructional films from the Defense Visual Information Center (DVIC), the somewhat dated film features wonderful music, evocative of its era, and a fair bit of comedy, both intentional and unintentional.

A vortex of historical mumbo jumbo wrapped into a spinny tornado emitting sun beams from heaven accompanied by, mmmmm, nothingness.  Until the little door opens, and, The Doctor emerges.       If only.

Created by us for Red Tettemer. Built with C4D and After Effects, the opiate of the masses.

Because I didn’t need my heart anyway.

On another note, this kid needs to be in the running to play Augustus.  leThe girl who played Hazel…not so much.

Agreed. Lol. I mean they both do an great job but James Gaisford definitely does by an astounding job playing that whole emotional scene. I gotta say, I’m really surprised someone would choose this particular scene to reenact. Its a tough scene to play!

“Less is More” by Basma Abouelenein
This was a project I did in my Moving Titles (After Effects) class, senior year. The idea was to take a quote we like (any of our choice) and interpret it visually through motion. The quote I chose is “less is more.” by Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe. It is a quote that means a lot to me as a graphic design student with very complex concepts a lot of times. Sometimes when things are simpler, its just better!

Music: Múm - “Don’t Be Afraid, You Have Just Got Your Eyes Closed”
Animation: Basma Abouelenein
Quote: Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe

Pandora’s Box by Basma Abouelenein

This was my senior project while I was at Moore College of Art & Design. It was composed of three printed illustrations (made entirely of ink and paint but digitally printed) abstractly telling the basic story of Pandora’s Box. It was acompanied by an overhanging screen attached to the ceiling of the gallery area and a video I shot, edited and animated was projected onto the screen. My composer and long time friend, Katelyn Varkonyi made the music along with some help from our faithful sound guy, Ryan Heaney.

This installation piece has been mentioned in a Philadelphia art blog linked here: http://brewermultimedia.com/2012/06/01/moore-college-of-art-and-design-senior-exhibit-2012/
